Rev. Susan Verbrugge

Part-time pastor at Glade Church

Susan Verbrugge began her ministry with Glade Church in January 2015. She was ordained in 2001 in the Presbyterian Church USA and can also serve a United Church of Christ congregation like Glade.

In her ministry and life, Susan is committed to listening for God in life…through other people, through scripture, through creation.  She is passionate about social justice, about creativity, and about listening to the stories of others.

Susan grew up in Boone, NC and graduated from Wake Forest University with a BA in English.  Soon after graduating, she married her husband Ross. She worked with abused and neglected children for a few years in Georgia and then felt a call from God to attend seminary. She received her Master’s in Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA.

Susan is a mountain girl who loves to read (mystery novels and spirituality books among other things), drink hot tea, hike, knit, cook (and eat), garden (or play in the dirt as she calls it), watch good movies, laugh, power walk with her dogs, Kona and Boo, play with her two cats, Comet and Gonzo, and spend time with her family. She has recently taken up yoga and watercolor though she doesn’t show anyone what she is painting. Her husband works at Virginia Tech; her son is a student at Virginia Tech; and her daughter is a student at the University of Georgia.

Susan is excited to continue to see what God is doing in and through Glade Church.
